Middleburg Results! GHS Places 5th!!!

Parents,

The GHS Hurricane Marching Band performed wonderfully in Middleburg.  We had a great night! Thank you for supporting them!

As you know, it was record HOT, hot, hot. One brief intermission from the heat when it rained -- during OUR preliminary performance, no less!  Despite the wind and rain, the GHS Hurricane Marching Band scored a respectable 72.35 in the prelims, and moved on to the finals. Our students increased score to 77.15 and placed 5th in the finals. Our Alachua County marching band brethren, Buchholz High School and Santa Fe High School, also gave outstanding performances and placed 1st and 3rd respectively.

The Middleburg judges rated our band SUPERIOR in the following categories: Visual, General Effects, Percussion, Drum Major and Colorguard. (Noticeably absent - music. I suspect that the rain and wind drowned out our musical sound, as we sounded GREAT in the finals.)

Here are the Final Competition scores:
  • Grand Champions: Buchholz 86.35
  • First Runner Up: Oviedo 85.50
  • Second Runner Up: Santa Fe 80.60
  • 4th Place: Fleming Island 77.75
  • 5th Place: Gainesville 77.15
  • 6th Place: Fletcher 75.95
  • 7th Place: Pedro Menendez 70.70
  • 8th Place: Trinity Christian  69.50
  • 9th Place:  Ridgeview 67.80
  • 10th Place: Fernandina Beach 65.95
Of final note:  My earlier post on what to expect turned out to be somewhat inaccurate.  I observes LOTS of people with umbrellas for shade, more than a few with folding chairs, and several shade tents set up on the top bleacher rows. Personal food and drinks were also not allowed inside. I was right about one thing though; it was hot.
